TGIF

Took a break from running today. Good news: no shin splints! But my calves are sore from yesterday’s run! Which is a really good sign I’m doing something right! 😛

The hubby has today & the weekend off, finally! His mission today was to buy a spear gun for free diving. I didn’t know we were gonna buy one today. Thought we were just gonna look around but he tricked me. Sneaky sneaky! Since the dive shop was near my mom’s work, we decided to pick her up when she got off. But we had a late lunch at IKEA before we got her. Sophia loved the kiddie sink! She said, “Mommy, I can reach it!” They even had a little kiddie area complete with small tables & chairs and even a TV! So she sat right in the middle & watched some Spongebob while munching on chicken tenders & fries. 🙂

My mom and I went to PetsMart while Sophia & Jay took a nap. I was searching for a hands free leash for my dog, Sky, instead of using the regular retractable leash for when we go for a run. They had something similar but I opted not to get it. Instead I got her a cute purple mesh harness with chevron print & a shorter leash to match it. Love it! Running with her is so much better than running alone. 😛

As of right now, I made some juice. I love juicing, btw! Before juicing, I hardly ever ate my fruits and especially vegetables! But now I get most of my daily servings and more from juicing every day. One of my favorite recipes to juice is using 2 red apples, 2 carrots, & 8 strawberries. And I usually throw in some spinach &/or kale & chia seeds. I was feeling a little adventurous so I added 1/4 beet. I usually make enough to share with my mom but she DISLIKES beets, so more for me! 😛

The beet definitely changes up the flavor but it also makes it even healthier! Anyway, do you spy the Plain White T’s on my Pandora? Yup, that is correct! Ever since watching Ready For Love on NBC, they’ve been on repeat. 🙂 I think Tim Lopez is a cutie… he’s starting to grow on me. Looking forward to more episodes and see who he ends up falling in love with!

Big difference!

Morning! So remember how I said my blog will consist of some posts dedicated to running? Well, this is one of them! 🙂 I started running again sort of in the beginning of the year. I was very VERY inconsistent last year but this time around, I’ve been doing pretty well & have been running 3-5x a week now. Before, I used to get really bad shin splints… which was the main reason why I was very inconsistent, it just hurt to run! So I took a break from running. When I started back up again this year, my shin splints were gone and I was running pain free!… until a couple weeks ago when they decided to make a return! I couldn’t figure out WHY I was getting them til recently. I forgot who mentioned it, but I guess you can say I was running improperly. I was running with a heel strike which can cause so much stress to my legs, specifically my shins. So I looked up ways on Google how I can prevent getting shin splints in the future. I found a video [can’t find which one, but this one is similar to it]. I realized when I ran around the house, I had the “barefoot” running method down, but put on some running shoes, it’s a whole different story! So I went for a really short run with my ASICS GT-2170’s and tried the “barefoot” running…running on the balls of my feet. When I got back home, my shins weren’t hurting as much, but my calves were already sore! I mean… WHAT. A. BIG. DIFFERENCE! Over the weekend, the hubby took me to REI and I went & tried on some of the Vibram Bikila’s and the Brooks PureConnect2’s. I LOVED both, but ended up getting the Brook’s because I wasn’t sure if the Vibram’s would work out for me right away. I also bought the Roller Massager… & let me tell you. BEST. THING. EVER! It really works wonders for my shin splints to the point that it basically massaged them away. Seriously! It’s a must buy for runners!

Anyway, after running for the first time in my new Brook’s, I fell in love. They’re so light weight & they hug my feet.

The lady at REI told me any of the Brook’s Pure’s are like a step behind the Vibram FF’s. So hopefully if I wanna transition all the way to barefoot running, I plan on getting the Bikila’s next!

I just came back from a 3.5 mile run in my new shoes [after running in them for about a week now]. Throughout my entire run, my shins weren’t hurting and overall I just felt good! So if you’re planning on transitioning to a minimalist shoe but don’t wanna transition all the way to barefoot running just yet, any of the Brook’s Pure’s are wonderful! They do run a little snug, so it’s recommended to go a half size up. 🙂

New kid on the block

Hi, everyone! So I seriously kept debating if I wanted to start up a blog for the longest time! I signed up on here, spiffed up the page a bit, but never had the courage to post anything! A good friend of mine, Sharisse, whom I finally got to visit at her new house yesterday, encouraged me to start blogging! So, hi! For those that don’t know me, my name is Tiffany! 🙂 I guess this blog will consist a little bit of everything from fitness, to food, to my soon-to-be-3yrs-old daughter, Sophia. I hope you all enjoy a piece of my life through my little blog. 🙂
